Kiwirail is a state-owned enterprise operating train services throughout New Zealand and ferry services on the Interislander between the North and the South Islands. A new digital platform was designed in order to increase bookings, facilitate a better digital experience and in doing so, enhance the overall journey for all customers.
A key project outcome was to understand what people need to know to feel comfortable about making a booking, and to surface this information on landing pages, without customers having to dig deep and read walls of copy which was the previous web experience.
Kiwirail's train services and ferry services were on completely different websites, impossible for customer's to know the services were related. Creating a new platform allowed for a consistent brand experience with a shared pattern library, under a new umbrella name 'The Great Journeys of New Zealand.'
